He became Irelands first ever Eurovision song contest entrant and would perform in Naples on Saturday the 20th. March 1965. Of the 18 contestants , Butch was to sing 5th. He was accompanied to Naples by Capitol manager Jim Doherty, and bandleader Des Kelly. Also  present was Telefis Eireann producer Tom Mc Grath, and at home and abroad a massive TV audience watched the show. Luxembourg won the contest with Kathy Kirby of England 2nd., France ,3rd and Ireland a very ceditable 6th. on their first outing. Prior to Eurovision and since winning the National Song Contest, Butch had put in a tremendous effort into rehearsing the song , getting the presentation and arrangement right and in typical Capitol professionalism this was to pay off with a fine performance on the night . The song proved to be a massive hit for Butch and the Capitol and they continued to pack halls wherever they played. Butch_with_Composers.                                        Butch_with_Composers.RTV__GuideEurovision_Contestants Signing_Autographs
